How To Get Rid Of Clogged Pores With 6 Easy Tips


I recently got a message on Instagram asking me how I clean my pores. That’s a great question because I have an allergic reaction to pores. Especially lately, since I wear so much makeup, I realized that I’ve got to step up the maintenance when it comes to pore-cleansing.

When I was doing research recently on how I can diminish my pores, I found out that there are some easy home DIY tricks we all can try to keep our skin looking fresh like it’s got a natural filter on repeat. Here’s what I learned and the amazing products that I have been playing with.

What Do You Eat?

In order to prevent your pores from getting clogged, avoid eating high-glycemic foods. Instead, maintain a low-glycemic diet. So what does a low-glycemic diet entail? We’re talking about whole grains; dark, leafy greens; dry beans; and certain fruits like cherries, plums, grapefruit and peaches.

Home DIY

There are two items in your fridge — lemon and parsley — that are great for cleansing your pores. You can cut a lemon in half and rub it over your face. The citric acid it contains works to exfoliate the skin and clear out any dirt that’s been living in your pores. Parsley can be great as well. All you have to do is soak a small head of parsley in warm water and dip a washcloth in the water, applying it to your face for 10 to 15 minutes. You can also mix parsley with lemon and honey to make a cool mask.


Using charcoal is an amazing way to clean your skin because it absorbs dirt that clogs your pores. My favorite charcoal mask is from Boscia.


Use caution. Once the mask dries, the process of removing it can be painful.


I think it’s important to get facials regularly if you wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. Since I wear heavy makeup every day, I get a facial about once every month or every six weeks. Even if you don’t wear makeup regularly, you should try to get a facial once every three to six months. But facials are expensive. If you can’t afford to get one regularly, try using this extraction tool below from Sephora that manually clears clogged pores.

Cleanse the Pores AwayA good daily cleanser is important to get rid of dirt from your skin. I really like Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser. This product has Amazonian white clay which is known to help remove excess oil and dead skin that can clog pores. 



Scrub Your Pores Goodbye
 A good scrub can help get rid of pores, but scrubbing is always hard on my skin because it’s so sensitive. A friend of mine suggested I use sugar scrub because it’s not as aggressive on the skin. Baking soda is also known to make a good, easy mask you can use at home to get rid of clogged pores. A cool recipe that I found online suggests mixing two teaspoons of baking soda with a teaspoon of water to create a mask which you leave on your favor for five to 10 minutes.
